Museum.
This is a heritage museum created in 2009 to show the diverse history within the fishing industry, which is the major industry in the area. Set up by local enthusiasts of the Heritage Foundation, the museum is stituated in one of the oldest buildings within the Laaiplek Hotel complex. The exhibits were transfered from the Hout Bay museum which unfortunately for them had to close down, but fortunately for us transfered to our location.
The opening of the museum was a truly historic event for the fishing industry, and all who are facinated by the sea and its treasures. The museum is unique in that it demonstrates the history of the fishing industry, its resources and processing methods. Curator Felicity Strohfeldt, is pleased to report that this new initiative has been well received by all that have visited since the opening.
The museum is open fom 10.00am to 16.00 Monday to Friday and from 10.00am until 13.00 on a Saturday.. Watch a movie on The Laaiplek Museum
