Finding your way around

Velddrif, Port Owen and Laaiplek are as close as suburbs in a city. Coming over the bridge, you first enter Velddrif.

Turn right after the bridge to get to the culturally historic Bokkomlaan, where the age-old tradition of salting fish is still practiced. You can buy bokkom here, as well as enjoy the peace and tranquility of the Berg River. The wonderful Vishuis Restaurant 022 783 1183, is there for refreshment by the riverside at reasonable prices.   Want to have some fun?  Boat rides easily arranged, Captain Dan, The Riverboat Man  082 951 0447.

Just to the left of the bridge are more sights and facilities on the river.

Turning left at that same bridge gets you to Port Owen and Laaiplek.

Port Owen has the well-known Marina and Admiral Island, and you will find the beach and harbour at Laaiplek as well as the Laiplek Hotel.
