The spot where Vasco Da Gama landed has become a quiet village on the shores of the bay for which it is named. It is a favourite place for kayaking as the water is calm and the village is sheltered from the South-Easter by the row of hills behind it. Whales are often seen, quite close to shore and the fish life is abundant. There is a large fishing fleet and factory processing plant, who are the major employers in the area.
There are a number of new building plots that overlook the bay towards Velddrif and Port Owen. The village is 20klms from Vredenburg. Further down the road you will find Shelly Beach, a large development with a spa and hotel complex, great if you are looking for somewhere to relax and unwind.

A short drive to the facilities of Vredenburg, St Helena Bay has become a scenic retreat for those who enjoy its magnificent views and tranquil lifestyle.
